It sits above the roofing battens and underlay as part of the outer pitched-roof covering, helping shed rainwater and form the finished roof appearance. Handmade clay plain tile is chosen for handmade clay finish with natural variation, traditional colour tones and weathering character.

Things to consider before buying
- Check profile, size and colour against the existing roof before ordering, especially for repairs and extensions.
- Gauge, headlap and overlap affect both coverage and roof pitch suitability.
- Tile / slate coverage can change with roof pitch, exposure and fixing method, so allow for waste, cuts and breakages.
- Confirm the correct fixings, battens, underlay, ridge and verge components for the roof system.
- Colours and finishes can vary between batches and may weather over time, especially with clay and natural slate products.
